How to do a Southern Charm accent

  1. Turn 'I' into a long flat 'ah': 'Ah'm fahn', 'nahs' for nice.
  2. Break short vowels into two sounds: 'yes' becomes 'yay-us', 'bed' becomes 'bay-ud'.
  3. Speak slowly with a gentle rise and fall, smiling as you go.
  4. Soften R's at the ends of words and drop the G in '-ing' words.

The most common mistake

Making it twangy and harsh like a cowboy; Southern charm is softer and more musical.

Warm up with this

“Honey, it's so hot today the porch swing gave up swingin'.”
