๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ Scottish Accent Test: How Good Is Your Scottish Accent?

A strong Scottish accent has tapped or rolled R's, short tight vowels and a firm, clear rhythm. It is rhotic, so every R gets said.

The line to say

โ€œIt's a braw bright moonlit night tonight, so it is.โ€

How to do a Scottish accent

  1. Tap or roll every R, including the ones at the end: 'nicht', 'brrright', 'moonlit nicht'.
  2. Make 'oo' sounds short and forward: 'good' and 'food' rhyme.
  3. Say the 'ch' in words like 'loch' and 'night' as a soft throaty rasp where it fits.
  4. Keep vowels short and pure; 'day' is a clean 'deh' rather than 'day-ee'.

The most common mistake

Only rolling the R's and leaving all the vowels in your own accent.
