How to do a Posh English accent

  1. Use a long 'ah' in words like 'bath', 'pass' and 'dance': 'pahss the sahndwiches'.
  2. Drop the R after vowels: 'deah' for dear, 'cucumbah', 'fah' for far.
  3. Hit every T cleanly and lightly, especially in the middle of words like 'better' and 'water'.
  4. Keep the jaw fairly still and the lips slightly rounded, so 'no' glides into a rounded 'neh-oo'.

The most common mistake

Shouting it in a silly falsetto; real RP is calm and quietly precise rather than squeaky.

Warm up with this

โ€œRather a lot of rain this afternoon, wouldn't you say, darling?โ€
