๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช Cork Accent Test: How Good Is Your Cork Accent?

Cork English is fast and very musical, with pitch that swoops up and down within one sentence. It often sounds like it is rising towards a question.

The line to say

โ€œAh, sure tis only a small bit of rain, like, we'll go for a spin anyway, boy.โ€

How to do a Cork accent

  1. Make the tune climb and dip quickly across the line, almost like singing.
  2. Speak fast, running words together, then stretch the stressed word with a high note.
  3. Soften 'th' into a 't' or 'd': 'tis', 'tree' for three, 'dat'.
  4. Tap the R lightly and keep it, and throw in a quick 'like' or 'boy' at the end.

The most common mistake

Using a generic stage-Irish voice; Cork's speed and big pitch swings are what make it.

Warm up with this

โ€œTwas a mighty match altogether, like, we were up to ninety the whole time.โ€
