๐Ÿ Canadian Accent Test: How Good Is Your Canadian Accent?

Canadian English is mostly like General American, but certain vowel sounds shift upwards, and 'eh' turns statements into friendly checks. It sounds clear and easy-going.

๐ŸŽค Test your Canadian now

The line to say

โ€œOh sorry, eh, I didn't see you there, aboot to grab a double double.โ€

The judge scores how close you sound, whether you keep it up, your commitment, and whether you stick to the line. Up to 10 seconds, free, no sign-up.

How to do a Canadian accent

  1. Raise 'ou' before voiceless sounds: 'about' becomes 'a-boat', not 'aboot'.
  2. Do the same with 'i': 'ice' and 'right' start higher, almost 'uh-ice'.
  3. Keep strong R's and flapped T's, like an American accent.
  4. End some statements with a light, rising 'eh?' to invite agreement.

The most common mistake

Saying a cartoon 'aboot'; the real sound sits closer to 'a-boat' and is subtle.

Warm up with this

โ€œWe're heading out on the lake tonight, eh, bring a warm jacket.โ€
