🏴☠️ How to Do A Pirate Voice (and Test It)
The stage pirate is a West Country accent turned up to eleven: growly, rolling R's and a big swagger in every line. Think loud, chesty and pleased with yourself.
🎤 Test your Pirate nowThe line to say
“Arr, hand over the treasure or ye'll walk the plank, me hearties!”
The judge scores how close you sound, whether you keep it up, your commitment, and whether you stick to the line. Up to 10 seconds, free, no sign-up.
How to do it
- Hold every R and give it a curl: 'arrr', 'treasurrre', 'harrrties'. The R is the whole costume.
- Speak from low in the chest with a bit of gravel, as if you have been shouting over waves all day.
- Swap 'you' for 'ye' and 'my' for 'me', and slur them in quickly so they sound natural.
- Lean back, squint one eye and let the pitch swoop up and down on big words like 'treasure'.
The most common mistake
Saying a quick 'arr' at the start and then reading the rest in your normal voice.
