🪖 How to Do A Drill Sergeant Voice (and Test It)

The drill sergeant barks short, loud bursts with no pause for breath and no softness anywhere. Each sentence is a command.

🎤 Test your Drill Sergeant now

The line to say

“Drop and give me twenty! I did not hear you, recruit!”

The judge scores how close you sound, whether you keep it up, your commitment, and whether you stick to the line. Up to 10 seconds, free, no sign-up.

How to do it

  1. Shout from the diaphragm, not the throat, so you can keep it up without going hoarse.
  2. Chop sentences into short blasts with hard stops: 'Drop! And give me! Twenty!'
  3. Hit the first consonant of each word hard, especially D, G and T.
  4. Lean forward and keep your face close and fierce; it pushes the volume.

The most common mistake

Screeching high; a drill sergeant is loud but low and gravelly.

Warm up with this

“Boots laced! Bed made! You have thirty seconds, move it, move it!”
